Real Flooring Projects & Carpet Installations

Case Studies — Flooring Projects Across South London

Every installation tells a different story. Here are four projects that showcase the range of challenges Paul tackles — from single staircases to 300m² commercial halls.

Victorian Staircase Runner — Streatham, SW16

A complete stair carpet replacement on a 19th-century Victorian staircase with turned spindles and curved balustrade, transforming a worn, tired hallway into an elegant focal point.

01 The Challenge

The original carpet had been in place for over 15 years and was heavily worn on the nosings. The staircase had a curved bullnose bottom step — one of the trickiest details in carpet fitting — and the pine balustrade had delicate spindles that needed to be worked around without damage.

02 Our Approach

Paul fitted a premium grey loop-pile carpet with a quality 10mm Cloud Nine underlay for noise reduction and underfoot comfort. Each tread and riser was hand-cut and fitted individually to follow the curve of the bullnose step. Metal rods and carpet grippers were installed on every step to British BS 5442 standards.

03 The Result

The finished staircase became the centrepiece of the hallway. The homeowner commented that the install was "neater than anything they had seen before." The entire job — removal, fitting, and cleanup — was completed in a single day.

Church Hall Commercial Carpet — Croydon, CR0

Full carpet changeover for a large community church hall including the raised stage platform, seating area, and entrance foyer. The existing red carpet was stripped, disposed of, and replaced with a contemporary dark grey commercial carpet.

01 The Challenge

The hall exceeded 300m² across two levels including a raised stage with complex edge details. The project required precise planning to minimise disruption to the community. Time was critical — the hall was needed for a Sunday service 48 hours after work began.

02 Our Approach

Paul completed a full subfloor assessment on day one, removing all existing gripper rods and tack strips, and checking the concrete subfloor for moisture. A commercial-grade dark charcoal carpet was sourced and delivered. The carpet was power-stretched across the main floor in large sections, with hand-fitted detail work around the stage edges and entrance threshold.

03 The Result

Both floors were completed within the 48-hour window. The dark grey carpet dramatically improved the room's acoustics and gave the hall a smart, professional appearance. The community voted it the best renovation the hall had seen in 30 years.

Oak LVT Kitchen & Hallway — Sutton, SM1

Supply and installation of warm oak-effect Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) flooring throughout an open-plan kitchen, hallway, and reception room, replacing cracked and outdated ceramic tiles.

01 The Challenge

The existing ceramic tiles were uneven and several were cracked. The subfloor had a 12mm height difference between the kitchen and hallway, requiring a self-levelling compound application before installation could begin. The kitchen island also posed a complex cutting challenge with curved toe-kick details.

02 Our Approach

Paul used a two-part self-levelling compound to bring the subfloor within 3mm tolerance across the full area — the industry standard for floating LVT. A click-lock oak-effect LVT plank system was chosen for its ability to cope with the underfloor heating system and kitchen moisture levels. All cuts around the island were templated and hand-scribed for a seamless fit.

03 The Result

The continuous oak-effect floor unified all three spaces, making the property feel significantly larger and brighter. The homeowners specifically requested Paul return to fit the upstairs bedrooms after seeing the finished result.

Full Home Carpet Replacement — Bromley, BR1

Complete re-carpeting of a three-bedroom semi-detached home including the staircase, upstairs landing, three bedrooms, and downstairs living room — all completed in a single day.

01 The Challenge

Fitting across multiple rooms and a full staircase in one day requires meticulous sequencing and no margin for error on measurements. The staircase had a winder turn at the bottom, and one bedroom had a bay window recess requiring complex border-cutting.

02 Our Approach

Paul conducted a full site survey one week prior, mapping every room's exact dimensions including bay window recesses, door thresholds, and the winder step template. Carpet rolls were ordered cut-to-size from the supplier to minimise waste. On fitting day, the sequence ran from the top floor down to prevent foot traffic disrupting fresh installations.

03 The Result

The entire home was completed in 8 hours with zero waste cuts and no visible seams. A dark charcoal carpet on the stairs and landing contrasted perfectly with the lighter grey bedroom carpets, creating a natural transition throughout the property.
